Marie was born December 9, 1935, to Ruffin Rhew and Annie Le Weaver in Durham County, NC. She grew up being raised by her mother’s family with several cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and her Step Grandmother whom she loved dearly and called her Granny. Marie’s family were farmers in Durham County.
At age 18, she met a handsome young man Thomas Churchill (24). They married shortly after she graduated from High School on May 22, 1954. Their first son Dwight was born in 1957 and second son Daniel was born in 1959. Marie was surprised to learn she was pregnant in early 1968 not anticipating having any additional children. Two months prior to due date, she learned she was pregnant with TWINS. This came as a shock to the family. First daughter, Sharon, and third son, Steven, were born in June of 1968.
They moved to Raleigh in 1959, and in 1960 they found their forever home in the Longview Gardens area near Downtown Raleigh in which they would raise their family until Tom's passing in 2020. Marie was a homemaker until the 1970’s when she started working as a Travel Agent and moved to be a Manager at Office Overload in the 1980’s. She had successful career where she was respected for her organizational operation skills until she had to take an early retirement due to Health Concerns in 1996.

They both lived to see their children graduate, marry, and have children of their own. Marie became a grandmother for the first time in 1981. Marie and Tom helped to raise seven grandchildren. Marie had a big heart and her best memories were of the Beach trips spent with the grandchildren. Both Marie and Tom enjoyed their place in Atlantic Beach, NC. Many family memories were made at the beach.
Marie and Tom joined Longview United Methodist Church (UMC) when they moved to Raleigh and were faithful members and servants for over 50 years.
Marie is survived by her four children: Dwight (Paula), Daniel (Janet), Sharon, and Steven; seven grandchildren: Dale, David (Sheba), Katie (Rome), Mary Grace (James), Ian, Natalie (Eric), and Caleb; and nine great grandchildren: Gabrielle, Jayden, Arielle, Zayden, Davis, Ryan, Nell, Denton, and Rainer.
