Lamar graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy in 1977 where he played basketball, football, and served as class president his senior year. In 1982, Lamar graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA Degree in Science and a minor in Finance. While there, he became a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and established lifelong friendships.
Lamar began his early career as a stock broker at Merrill Lynch in Winston Salem, NC. He later earned his Accounting and MBA Degree at Georgia State University in 1990. He furthered his career and was employed by KPMG in San Francisco, C.A.
Upon his return to Raleigh, he met his wife of 24 years where they raised their two beautiful children. His family was his greatest joy. After the birth of their first child, Lamar began his own Accounting Firm, Lamar Jones Jr., Inc. From there, he transitioned to LEAP Technologies as CFO. In 2010, as a business entrepreneur, Lamar became President and owner of LEAP Pal Parts and Consumables. While living and working in Raleigh, he served on the board of The Hyatt Memorial Foundation, ushered at Christ Episcopal Church and volunteered at Wake Medical Heart Association.
Lamar loved to travel with his family to Germany and England. Whether the proper fit of a felt fedora, the precision engineering of a German automobile, the perfection of a Mont Blanc Pen or the peaty finish of a single malt scotch, Lamar loved the finer things in life. As an Eastern North Carolinian, these also included the love for banana pudding, a fresh watermelon and a hearty southern breakfast.
Lamar was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting at his farm with his son. He also enjoyed fishing and boating with family and friends at Atlantic Beach, N.C. He enjoyed starting his day with a good workout with his kettlebell class. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laughing and storytelling in the 19th Hole after a challenging day of golf. Lamar was a faithful man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
