John retired from IBM as a Human Resource Manager in 1994 and continued his involvement with his community, strongly supporting causes he cared about. He was retired Marine Corps, and a valued donor of the American Red Cross. He also led as a president of the Raleigh 55+ club. He had a passion for playing bridge and enjoyed teaching it to others at Raleigh Parks and Recreation. He was a contributor to the National Wildlife and Sierra Club Associations.
John was preceded in death by his late wife and mother of his children, Faye Floreth.
He leaves behind his wife, Edith Costa Floreth; his daughters, Deanna Pickett and Husband Tony of Hillsborough, Tracey Lautenbach and husband Roland of Raleigh, Tammy Trexler of Raleigh; grandchildren Rachael and Daniel Lautenbach of Raleigh; Sister Jeannie Holford; niece, Connie Bishop of Roswell GA; and step children, Harry and wife, Tamara, Gregory and wife, Sheri, Jimmy; along with step grandchildren, Heather, Allison, Christopher, Jason, Jessica, Jordan and Courtney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
A visitation for John will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, North Carolina.
