Joan Elizabeth Smith, a life long resident of Raleigh died June 29, 2021 following a period of declining health. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 38 years, Burl, her daughter Lauren, son-in-law James, granddaughter Evelyn, brother Mark, and mother Doris.
A graduate of Broughton High School and Wake Technical Community College, she pursued a career in healthcare until her retirement. Throughout her life Joan was an avid reader, artist, bargain hunter, puzzle solver, dog lover, and creator of crafts. In addition she loved to sew, hunt for coral glass and shark teeth along the shore of Topsail Beach. Joan's favorite moments in life were those spent with her family.
