In 1957 she married Mack Norwood Jackson; when he passed in 2008, they had recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Together they had three children, and helped create Holly Park Printing in Raleigh, North Carolina. The family worked as a unit to support the business, but also enjoyed vacationing at the beach, a tradition Joan would continue with her grandchildren. Joan also loved having her family over for the holidays, trips to Las Vegas, and reading. Her family smiles at the memory of her constant fretting over her hair, that no one would like their Christmas presents, and that the fringe on the area rugs wasn’t brushed straight. She was a loving wife, proud mother, and doting grandmother and great-grandmother.
Joan is survived by her daughter: Terri Pearce and husband Brad; sons: David Jackson and wife Pamela, and Todd Jackson and wife Kimberly; four grandchildren: Amy Pearce, Katie Kretschmar, Ben Jackson, and Caleb Jackson; two great-grandchildren: Augustus Kretschmar and Henry Kretschmar; and brother: Dillard Hutchens.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mack Jackson; and siblings, Marie Hutchens, Katie Tate, Ernest Hutchens, Evelyn Brandon, Mary Shelton, Elaine Furr, James Hutchens, and Ruby Scearce.
The family also wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the staff at Sterling Estates of West Cobb and Agape Hospice in Marietta, GA, for their support and kindness during Joan’s illness.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
