Jean Werner McGee, 97, of Apex, NC passed away on August 26, 2023, in Raleigh, NC. Born on June 4, 1926, Jean was a happy and joyful individual who was known for her engaging personality and dedication to family traditions.
Jean is survived by her children, Fred McGee, Jr. (June) and Becky McGee-Hudson (Stuart); one granddaughter, Abbey McGee Hudson, who affectionately named her Nana Bird; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Fred McGee, the father of her children; her father, Charles Werner, her mother, Sadie Werner; and her siblings, David Werner, Laura Ellen Werner, Sam Werner and John Werner.
Jean spent most of her life in Charlotte, graduating from Thomasboro High School. Jean raised her family and was a working mom. She had various jobs and worked many years with Southern Bell/BellSouth/AT&T. She was a founding and active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Charlotte, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She retired from AT&T in 1989. She moved to Leland, NC in 2005 and to Apex, NC in 2021.
In her free time, Jean enjoyed playing bridge and cooking. Her culinary skills were admired by her friends and loved ones, who often gathered around her table to savor her delicious meals. She also had a love for antiques both as a collector and dealer.
A gathering in remembrance of Jean will be held on September 30th, 1 pm, at the First Baptist Church Activities Center, 1939 Independence Blvd., Wilmington, NC.
