Jane was born on October 22nd 1929 in Winston Salem NC to the late Walter Vaughn and Essie Wheeler Vaughn. After she graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and the Medical College of Virginia, she served many years helping others as a registered nurse, social worker, substance abuse counselor and psychiatric nurse. After retiring, Jane’s desire to help others led her to volunteer at the Piedmont Triad International airport for many years.
After retiring for a second time, Jane spent her time working word puzzles, was an avid reader and enjoyed keeping up with her many friends and family. Jane took great joy in giving back through charity and regularly supported organizations that help children and protect animals.
Jane is survived by her son Vaughn Hastings and his wife, Kathryn, cousin Jackie Wheeler (and her daughters), her ‘family’ at Wakefield Manor, many friends far and wide, as well as her beloved cat, Finnigan Aloysius.
A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on January 9th 2016 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC 27612.
