Ida "Tate" Wall of Raleigh, 95, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully at home on December 13, 2024. Born on March 6,1929, Ida Tate was the youngest of three children born to John Moreau Foust Jr and Nina Tate Foust. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Billy Barbour Wall, her infant grandson, Brandon Allen Swann, brother John M. Foust III and sister Mary Hooker White.
Tate was born and raised in Randolph County, NC. She attended High Point College and graduated in 1954. Tate began teaching in Wake Co., where she was a beloved first grade teacher for over 30 years. She married Billy Barbour Wall on June 14, 1958 and they resided in Raleigh their entire married life raising two children.
Tate was a long time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She was active in many leadership roles through the years. She especially enjoyed serving on the wedding reception committee. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed crafts of all kinds, flower arranging and most of all, time with her family. Spending time with her four grandsons was a top priority. She loved people well with a Christ-like love and was a mother figure to so many! Tate was the model of an encouraging friend and was constantly making phone calls, visiting or sending cards to those in need.
Tate is survived by her children William David Wall (Ann) of Greenville, NC; Kelly Wall Swann (Gary) of Raleigh NC, and four grandsons: Taylor Swann (Elora) of Zebulon, NC, William Rains Wall (Christie) of Tyler Texas, Jordan Swann (Melissa) of Wilmington, NC and Evan Swann (Madison) of Wilmington, NC; and three great -grand children: Jonah Rains Wall, Rosemary Sinclaire Wall, and Ellie Tate Swann.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday December 23. Visitation from 12-1 and service at 1:00. Graveside for the family to follow.
