The family moved to Raleigh in 1967, when Hal was 9. He attended Brooks Elementary, Carroll Junior High and Sanderson High School where he graduated in 1976. Hal received his business degree in 1980 from ECU and MBA from Emory University. He was a product manager for IBM, Lenovo, and Oracle and retired in 2022.
Hal was a star pitcher in Little League. He pitched the first perfect game in the League at North Hills Park and went on to pitch for Sanderson High School and at the American Legion Ball level. Hal had an effervescent and passionate personality, a welcoming smile and a contagious laugh. He entered every room in “Kramer-esque “fashion with a twinkle in his eyes. Hal loved a good party- his Annual Summer Party was legendary. He was a rabid Dallas Cowboy fan, gathering with friends to watch “America’s Team”, and traveling once a year to Dallas to watch the Boys. He will be most remembered for his love of family and friends. He was kind and generous and at the ready to help anyone anytime. Hal never missed a family holiday or birthday dinner. He was a devoted fiancé, son, brother and uncle.
In his last year of life, Hal suffered with severe neuropathy which, unfortunately, robbed him of all hope of recovery. We choose to remember him as he was prior to that tragic condition.
Hal was predeceased by his mother Shirley.
Left to cherish his love and memory are his fiancée, Denise Adams; his father, Ralph Humrickhouse and wife, Annie; his brother, Scott Humrickhouse and wife, Stephani, all of Raleigh; and his nephew, John Humrickhouse and wife, Ashley of Wilmington. He will be missed by Denise’s children and grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Hal’s life will be held on Thursday, October 12th at 2pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh. The service will be livestreamed through, https://online.brushfire.com/wmpc/funerals
