Glenn was born on September 22, 1946 in Baltimore, MD to the late Bernard and Evelyn Matthews Hartman.
He graduated from The University of Baltimore with a degree in Business Administration in 1969. After college, he served in the Army National Guard until 1977. He served as a Senior Vice President in charge of construction lending and A&D loans for both Citibank and Northwestern Mortgage Corporation. In 1985 he co-founded Capitol Homes in Raleigh with Richard Weale. Capitol Homes was one of the leading residential homebuilders in the Raleigh area during the 1990s and early 2000s until the company was sold to Comstock homes in 2006. In 2009 he co-founded Capitol City Homes with Jason Morrow and Trey McDonald. Under their collective leadership Capitol City Homes has become one of the larger builders in central North Carolina, closing 250 residential homes in 2020.
He was also a key principal in The Preserve at Jones Dairy Farm development with Steve Macko, David Peoples, and Andy Beaird which began in Rolesville in 2020.
Glenn was also a passionate member of the Wolfpack Club since 1990 and had a love of tailgating with many friends at Carter-Finley Stadium. Future football, basketball, and baseball seasons in West Raleigh will not be the same without him.
He dearly loved Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his grandchildren, his family, North Carolina State athletics, Baltimore Orioles baseball, golf, and the many friends and business associates he has known and worked with for many years. He was truly a one of a kind person who lived life to the fullest.
In addition to his parents, Glenn is preceded in death by his brothers Bill, Warren, and Benny.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Turek Hartman; his son Brad Hartman and wife Jennifer; his grandchildren Tyler and Kendall.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 28 2021 at 11:00 am in the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
