Whitey married the love of his life Marsha Evans on August 12, 1961. They met while in high school, and were the best of friends but did not start dating until college when Whitey was attending UNC Chapel Hill. While at UNC Whitey played baseball. He was a great athlete, a triple threat exceling in baseball, basketball and football. He was inducted into the Millbrook High School Hall of Fame in 2013.
Shortly after getting married Whitey began working for Evans & Wade Advertising Limited until his retirement in 2004 as President.
Whitey was man with a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people happy. At his beach house on Ocean Isle Beach he created “Barbie Beach” which attracted many families and individuals from surrounding beaches. What started out as a small landscaping project turned into a community attraction and the enjoyment Whitey felt knowing how many people looked forward to what was going to be done each season was exciting and fulfilling.
Whitey had great love for his family, god and his country. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. Reserves for 7 years. Whitey will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by everyone blessed to have known him or have been touched by him in his kind ways.
Whitey is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Gloria Barber and Joyce Shaw.
Whitey is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marsha Wade; daughter, Susan Beth Chapman; son, Richard Talmadge Wade and wife Susan; granddaughter, Hannah Elsie Chapman; sisters, Betty Jean Hearn and Sue Ann Heath and her husband Bodell; brothers, Donald Wade and Jimmy Wade and his wife Carrie and numerous other loving family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local Salvation Army or charity of choice.
