Ernestine Williams Williams Davis

Ernestine was born in Rocky Mount to Ernest C. Williams and Leary Webb Williams September 5, 1919. She grew up in Macclesfield, NC with her brother Malcolm C. Williams, deceased, of Greenville, NC and her sister Jeannette Gray, deceased, of Verona, VA. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; and a faithful supporter of her husband, John, in building the business of Medlin-Davis Cleaners.

Ernestine was an active member for over 70 years of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church where she served in many capacities, including being a former elder. She served as president of the State Christian Women’s Fellowship for two terms and formerly on the Board of Directors of Christmount Christian Assembly. She was an active member of The Women’s Club of Raleigh for over 25 years.

Ernestine is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, John C. Davis. She is survived by her two sons, Mack Davis and wife Marie of Raleigh, NC, and children Curt Davis and Susan Connelly of Greensboro, NC; Mike Davis and wife Pattie of Pittsboro, NC, and son John Davis, San Francisco, CA; and daughter, Leary Davis Hayes and husband Paul of Prattville, AL, and their daughters Ann Winburn, Athens, GA, and Virginia Russell, Augusta, GA; and six great grandchildren.

Ernestine was known for her faith, strength, and perseverance, and was called a remarkable lady by many admirers.

A memorial service will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church 2:00pm Wednesday, July 13, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillyer Memorial Christian Church, 718 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
