Eliecer Matta, affectionately known as “Tio”, peacefully passed away on Wednesday July 15th, 2020 at his home in Raleigh, NC. He was beside his loving wife of 46 years, Beatriz Maria Matta, and surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Eliecer was born on October 2nd, 1952 in Bogota, Colombia. He was the son of the late Pablo Emilio Matta and Rosa Virginia Charry as well as his late mother-in-law, Lucila Hernandez. He was a loving and caring husband to Beatriz Maria; devoted and proud father to Juan Felipe (Elizabeth Harles), Elizabeth (Paul Bhar), Jorge Eliecer and Brian (Leigh); as well as a loving Grandfather to Ethan and Lucas Bhar. Beloved brother to Juan, Amparo, Jaime, Miriam, and Nelson, all of which reside in Medellin, Colombia. Cherished brother-in-law to Fabiola Sherman, Adolfo and Olga Medina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Eliecer migrated to the United States in 1981 with his wife and children in pursuit of a better opportunity for his family. Despite the fact that he initially did not speak English, he worked hard during the day and went to school at night, setting an example of hard work and determination to his children and the people around him. His family eventually settled in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he became a small business owner.
Eliecer was the owner of Las Margaritas in Garner NC, where he greeted his customers with his charming smile every day. He found peace and joy in helping others and took great pride in caring for his family and his community. He is an inspiration and a great example of what a person can accomplish by being loving, selfless, and determined. He will be dearly missed, and forever cherished and remembered for his generosity, his devotion to helping others and his contagious laughter and smile.
A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, July 19 at 3:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral home at 1701 East Millbrook Road, all are welcome to attend and celebrate Eliecer’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to American Lung Association or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
