Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. from 1943-1946. He met the love of his life Menola “Nola” Sanford in 1945 at the USO in Wilmington. They were married on August 3, 1946 in Wilmington. Edward graduated from Elon College in 1949 and then began his career as an Educator. He worked for the State of North Carolina until his retirement in 1978.
In addition to being a lifelong Educator, Edward loved ham radio. He was one of the founding members of Raleigh Amateur Radio Society, his ham radio call sign was WA4PEN. A master mason, Edward was a 60 year member of Tabasco Lodge #271 in Gibsonville, NC, and a 50 year member and Past Patron of Millbrook Chapter #293, OES in Raleigh. Edward will be dearly missed by everyone blessed to have known him.
Edward is preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Alderman; his sister, Eleanor Hopper and his brother, Roy Alderman.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nola Alderman; sons, Dr. Edward M. Alderman, Jr. and his wife Annette and Don Alderman and his wife Sheila; grandchildren, Lauren Alderman, Marshall Alderman and his fiancé Sarah, and Eddie Alderman; sister-in-law, June Alderman; niece, Debra Alderman; nephew, Roy Alderman, Jr. and other loving family members.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Interment services will be private at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, NC.
