E. Hughes “Buzzy” Scott, Jr., 61, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 after several months of declining health. Buzzy was born in Columbia, South Carolina on April 29, 1949. He and his family moved to Raleigh when he was one year of age. He was a 1967 graduate of Needham B. Broughton High School, and a graduate of East Carolina University. Prior to becoming disabled in 1989, Buzzy owned and operated E. Hughes Scott, Jr. and Associates which specialized in providing athletic insurance for colleges and universities.
He is predeceased by his parents E. Hughes Scott, Sr. and Elizabeth Burnside Scott, and a brother John Marvin Scott.
He is survived by a son, John Hughes Scott and fiance’, Prudence Kane Lyon of Raleigh; a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Scott and fiancé Will Schorr Robinson of Charlotte.
A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 2pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, 1704 Oberlin Rd. Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
