Douglas (Doug) Alan Warden was born in Catskill, NY on September 4, 1944, graduated from Haverford Township High School in PA, served in the US Army, and settled in Raleigh where he spent 48 years working at IBM.
He met people around the world via Ham Radio and was a longtime, active member at Edenton Street United Methodist Church where he was embraced by the Foundry Sunday School class who supported him in the last months of his life. He loved the fellowship and good food (especially dessert) with the Crabtree Missional Community and had a special place in his heart for the folks at the Murphey School Senior Apartments.
A man with a kind heart, Doug was a devoted father and grandfather. He was always quick to crack a joke, was fascinated by technology and aviation, and found joy in every minute spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ida of 54 years; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Dr. Joseph Cefalu; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Wayne Blum; son and son-in-law, Michael Warden and Brian Johnson; granddaughters, Ally and Madeline Cefalu and grandsons, Henry and Spencer Blum.
A celebration of Doug’s life will take place on October 8 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary of Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The service will be livestreamed through the following link, http://esumc.org/live.
