Doris Marie Marchewka Watson, 87, died November 28, 2024, in Raleigh, NC. She was born April 21, 1937, in Schenectady, NY to Peter Stanley and Genevieve (Carroll) Marchewka. Doris is a 1955 graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady.
With her outgoing, fun personality, childhood years were spent in Schenectady playing softball, bowling, socializing with friends, and fun antics enjoyed with her beloved English Sheepdog “Pal”. In 1958, Doris met the love of her life, Al, while working together at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady, NY. Doris and Al were married in Schenectady on November 30, 1958. In 1969, Doris and Al moved the family to Raleigh, NC where Al accepted a position with Carolina Power and Light (later Progress Energy). Raleigh years were spent enjoying friends, Tennis, and games of Bridge and Mahjong. With her artistic ability, Doris enjoyed painting, drawing, and creating her beautiful homes over the years.
Doris and Al shared an active retirement with a busy schedule of travel, golfing, volunteering, and time spent with family and friends. Their nearly 30-year retirement was enjoyed with homes in Venice, FL and Raleigh, NC. An avid golfer - with the honor of a hole-in-one, Doris enjoyed golf, and socializing with friends at The North Ridge Country Club, in Raleigh, and The Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, FL. Doris was an active member of the Raleigh Catholic community of St. Francis of Assisi. A devoted wife and mother, Doris was deeply cherished by her husband, children, her grand and great-grandchildren.
Final years were happily spent in Raleigh at The Cardinal at North Hills, where Doris found a welcoming community of friends and caring staff. The family is grateful to all the associates and staff at The Cardinal and especially the caregivers in the Memory Care Facility for their kindness, care, acts of love, and the compassion provided to Doris and family members.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, her sister Arlene and husband (Jack) Callahan, and her brother Donald (MaryAnn) Marchewka.
She is survived by her three children, Allen Peter and wife, Liane (Wertis) Watson, of Monroe, NC, Eric Robert Watson, of Alexandria, VA, and Jill Carroll Watson, of Houston, TX; her four grandchildren, Jay Watson and wife Kathryn Fromson, Megan and wife, Lyndsey (Takac) Watson, Emily and Lucy Watson-Cook; and her four great-grandchildren, Sean Weaver, Jack, Genevieve “Evey”, and Cameron Watson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday January 4th, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 11401 Leesville, Rd., Raleigh. The Rite of Committal and Interment will immediately follow the funeral Mass. The family will host a reception celebrating Doris’s life at The Cardinal at North Hills, at 1:30 p.m. January 4th, 2025. All are invited.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5171 Glenwood Ave #101, Raleigh, NC 27612, in Doris’ memory.
