Don was born on December 20, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1961, and then from the University of Alabama in 1966 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He spent his entire career with IBM holding various engineering positions in Huntsville, Alabama and Raleigh, North Carolina. He was particularly proud of the work he did on the Saturn rocket program for the Apollo missions to the moon and the Store Systems work he did with the Raleigh IBM team.
He was extremely thankful for his family and the nearly sixty years spent with his bride and the adventures they shared together. He loved being around people and enjoyed talking about his family. He also loved detailed discussions of Alabama football and Southern gospel music. He enjoyed singing and was active in the choir at Providence Church for many years and loved spending time at Camp Kerr Lake with friends and family. He was mechanically gifted and enjoyed working on cars and could repair or “make better” most anything he set his mind to accomplishing. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and Papa and will be greatly missed but we are thankful for the hope in Christ that we will have a grand reunion one day. He leaves behind a legacy of love for his family and his Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Curtis Mullins; children, Kenneth Mullins (Paula) and Donna Mullins; as well as his grandchildren, Hunter Mullins and Quinn Mullins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ilona Mullins.
A funeral service was held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 2:00pm at Providence Church, Raleigh. Burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
