Charlie was born April 2, 1931 in Erwin, Tennessee to the late Clarence and Anna Wiegand Kilmer. He was a veteran of the US Army, attended University of Tennessee and was a graduate of East Tennesse State University and Texas Christian University. He was employed as a chemist with General Dynamics, Chemstrand Corp., and finally retiring with IBM in 1996, with over 28 years of service.
Charlie was active in the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a leader for many years. He loved the out-of-doors and camping. He was a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church and active member of the Cameron Sunday School Class. Charlie also served as Usher, member of the Finance Committee, Missions, active with ARC and attended Bible Study Fellowship. He was a devoted caretaker of his loving wife Betty for the past ten years.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Keesling Kilmer; son, Mark Alan Kilmer of Raleigh; sister, Beth Miller of Port Orange, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
