Gib was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gibson Buie, Jr. of Laurinburg, NC; his maternal grandparents, Clifton and Evelyn Poole of Clayton, NC; his paternal grandparents, Charles and Jessie Buie of Biscoe, NC; and his beloved dog and longtime companion, Mason.
Gib is survived by his sister, Evelyn Buie Shytle and her husband, Wilbur “Chip” Shytle; niece, Kitch Shytle Deaton and her husband, Grant; niece, Mary Elizabeth Peacock and her husband, Brian; nephew, Will Shytle and his wife, Mel; Katie Shytle Gardner and her husband, Matt; his brother, Clifton Poole Buie and his wife, Angell Brady Buie; niece, Munroe Buie Lippard and her husband, Luke; nephews, Jackson Medlin and Alex Medlin; niece, Charlie Buie; his brother, Frank Thomas Buie and his wife, Angie Owens Buie; niece, Carson Buie; nephew, Thomas Buie; and niece, Isabel Buie; and his step-mother, Ann McCall Buie. Gib is also survived by two loving aunts, Martha Buie Tyson and Sally Buie Markham (Jack), many cousins and dear friends including, Rick and Sunny Lewis and Taryn Madden.
Gib was born in Swepsonville, NC on March 4th, 1954, and grew up in Laurinburg, NC. He was a member of the Scotland High School, class of 1972 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from Elon College, in 1978. He retired after many dedicated years of service with the State of North Carolina.
Gib was a true gentleman and had a huge heart. A truly loving spirit emanated from Gib to many of those who were ever in his presence. He loved the City of Raleigh and was a long-time member of the YMCA on Hillsborough St., where he developed many friendships.
Gib was an avid gardener and loved nothing more than planting in his yard and in the yards of many friends. Many Raleigh residents have fond memories of watching Gib work in his yard as they passed his home on Oberlin Road.

A service to honor and celebrate Gibs life will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, with a reception to follow.
A separate time of visitation will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 101 West Church St. Laurinburg, NC. Burial will be private.
