Carl Allen Prickett, 84, of Raleigh passed away at his residence on Wednesday January 6, 2016. He was born April 27, 1931 in Bellevue, KY. He was the son of the late Paul Prickett and Vivien (Linville) Schussler.
Carl graduated from Bellevue High School in Bellevue, KY, in 1949. Next to his name and picture in his yearbook, it read: “The man that loves and laughs, must surely do well”. He embodied that sentiment throughout his life. Carl met his soon to be wife, Selma in the neighboring town of Dayton, KY. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Trieste, Italy. After honorably serving his beloved country, Carl entered the workforce and became a systems designer/engineer working with central office telephone equipment. His career took him from Galion, OH to Johnson City, TN and finally to Raleigh, NC where he resided for the past 30 years. Throughout his career, he worked for North Electric, United Telephone, ITT Telecom and Northern Telecom. Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching college basketball, reading books, enjoying good food—especially the many delicious meals cooked by his wife—and discussing current events. He also liked working in the yard and doing home projects.
He was predeceased by his mother, Vivien Schussler, father, Paul Prickett, step father, Leo Schussler, and his brother Glenn Prickett.
Carl is survived by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Selma Lee (Hoffstedder) Prickett, his children: Stephanie (Prickett) Crase and her husband Dan, David Prickett and his wife Deborah, and Wayne Prickett and his wife Connie, grandchildren: Melanie (Crase) Parsons, Carrie Lynn (Crase) Rogers, Matthew Crase, Grayson Prickett, Sam Prickett and Aaron Prickett; great grandchildren: Garreth, Ansley, and Tabitha Parsons, and Aidan, Logan, and Daniel Rogers.
