Brian was born on May 29th, 1972 in Fort Benning, Georgia. An Army brat, Brian grew up in various Army bases and towns. The bulk of his childhood was spent in Fayetteville, NC. He graduated high school in Leavenworth, Kansas and went on to receive a BA in Communications from NC State University in 1995.
Brian was born with an extremely rare genetic immunodeficiency known as Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD). He was not given great odds to make it out of his teen years, but with incredible bravery and strength, Brian defied those odds and lived a full life.
Brian was a loving and devoted husband and an amazing father. Not just a father, but a Daddy. It takes a special father to be a Daddy, and that’s what Brian was. Rachel was the apple of Brian’s eye and gave him his will to live when living was painful.
Brian was also a loving son. The relationship he shared with his mother was incredibly strong. She was always with him through all of his many childhood procedures and hospitalizations. His relationship with his father developed into what became his best friend. He spoke with both of his parents daily. They had a remarkable bond.
Brian worked as a Sports Writer for a small newspaper just out of college. He then worked for Nortel, Ryder and Kare Distribution. When Brian’s health forced him to go on disability, it enabled him to spend more time with his daughter, which was a gift for both of them.
Brian was a staunch NC State Fan and lived in a divided household (his wife graduated from UNC) and managed to brainwash his daughter into pulling for the Wolfpack. He was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and his brothers were his dearest friends. Brian always had a story to tell about one of his brothers and their antics.
Brian was incredibly funny and intelligent. He loved Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Saving Private Ryan. He loved video games and Pepsi and he loved the Kansas City Royals.
Brian was a beautiful and kind man and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We can all take comfort that he is now at peace and pain free.
Brian is survived by his wife Cathy Robinson, their daughter Rachel Robinson, also of Raleigh, his parents Donald Robinson, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret), U.S. Army and Renate (Renée) Robinson of Fayetteville, NC.
Brian will be laid to rest in Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, North Carolina 27612, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 with a visitation taking place in the Chapel Mausoleum, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM and burial at 1PM.
