Billy Van Blake

Billy was born in Carrboro, NC on March 29, 1938. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School and enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating.

Billy was married to Donna Cheryl Alford on August 30, 1980. They were married for 42 years.

Billy worked as an aircraft mechanic for 20 years in the Air Force from which he retired. He then worked for Rex Hospital in the Bio-Medical Department for 42 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands.

Billy is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his sister-in law, Darlene Blake, nieces and nephews and other family members. He is preceded in death by his mother, Clara Ward Horton, father, Billie Joel Blake, step-father, Fred Horton, and brother, Bobby Ward Blake.

The celebration of life will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 23 at 2:00 pm. Eddie Peterson of Friendship Baptist Church will be officiating. Internment following at Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.

Visitation will be held at 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, August 22 at Brown-Wynne.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Disabled American Veterans. The family of Billy wishes to thank Tabitha Grier for her care during his stay in Mayview and a newfound friendship, and all involved in his care at Transitions Hospice Care, especially Pam, his CNA.
