Betty Bennett, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed on to be with Jesus, mother, father and family on Thursday, April 26th. Betty was born and a life-long resident of Raleigh, the daughter of the late Swannie and Florrie Bryan. She was a graduate of Broughton High School- Class of 1949 and attended Mars Hill College. She met and married the love of her life, Ransom Vernon Bennett of Burke Co., who together had raised three wonderful children. They have been married for over 65 years. In addition to being a full time mom, she worked and retired with the State of North Carolina as an executive secretary. After retirement, she worked and joyously greeted patients at the dental practice of her son-in-law, Dr. Rex Card. She was always available when needed to care for grandchildren who she dearly loved. Betty was quite an artist who enjoyed painting, knitting, floral arranging and southern cooking. She was a life-long member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ransom Vernon Bennett; daughter, Lynda Bennett Card and son-in-law Rex. B. Card; sons, R. Bryan Bennett and Thomas D. Bennett; sister, Jean B. Linnebur; grandchildren, Justin R. Card (wife-Ashley) and Ashley Card Rogers (husband-Patrick); great- grandson, Bennett Rogers; and great-granddaughters, Emory and McLain Rogers.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh on Sunday, April 29th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Monday, April 30th at 10:30 am.
