Berry George Jenkins, Jr. passed away on May 12, 2023 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda D. Jenkins, his daughter, Beth Robertson, son-in-law, Philip Robertson, grandson, Noah Robertson of whom he was immensely proud and sister, Joy Baynes of Richmond, VA.
Berry was born on August 13, 1943 in Wilmington, NC to the late Berry George Jenkins and Cary Steele Jenkins. Berry and Glenda were married on October 2, 1965 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh and lived the majority of the married life in Raleigh where they have maintained many lifelong friends.
Berry graduated from North Carolina State University in 1965 with degree in Civil Engineer. Upon graduation, Berry obtained his PE and went to work for the Department of Transportation, Highway Division where he retired in 1997. Upon his retirement he was granted the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his contributions and service to the State of North Carolina. Berry began his second career with the Carolina AGC as the North Carolina Highway-Heavy/Government Relations Direction from which he retired in 2019. Berry was well respected throughout his career in the business community.
A dedicated NC State Wolfpack fan and season ticket holder for football games, he enjoyed many tailgates with his family and friends over the years. Berry was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends at their condo at Sea Trails Resort in Sunset Beach. Upon Berry’s retirement in 2019, he and Glenda adopted their beloved cat Cinnamon which gave the countless hours of entertainment.
The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, May 20 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brown Wynne Funeral Home located at 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
