Bernadine Emily Budris, known to many as “Bernie”, departed her loving family and friends on October 23, 2021 at The Landings of Swansboro Assisted Living. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 23, 1934 to the late Rudolph and Emily Pape.
Bernie was a mother to four daughters and raised them with love and devotion, sharing that motherhood was her greatest achievement. Working most of her career as an elementary school and business secretary, this warm and caring special lady was known for her creativity, humor, and hard-working nature. Her hobbies included baking, quilting, crocheting, painting and other arts and crafts. She also adored spending time at the beach with family, watching classic movies and playing bingo.
This devoted Christian was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clinton, NC and a former member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC.
Bernie is survived by her four adult daughters and sons-in law: Pamela Lazarus of Orlando, Florida, Katherine Huth and husband, Steve of Raleigh, NC, Karrie Gurwood and her husband, Howard, of Charleston, SC, and Toni Blount and her husband, Stuart, of New Bern, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jason Clark and wife, Jessica or Flora, IN., Jeremy Clark of Chesterton, IN., Jacob Blount of Durham, NC, Nicholas Blount of New Bern, NC and Anna Blount of New Bern, NC and two great grandchildren, Morgan Clark and Hayden Clark of Flora, IN.
She is predeceased by her husband, Anthony Budris and her twin brother, Bernard Pape.
A visitation/reception will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service both at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the following: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
