Upon graduation from Sacramento State College, he was accepted into the U.S. Secret Service in 1965. Throughout his 25 year career, he received many accolades and recognitions for his dedication and service and was respected by his peers throughout the law enforcement community. He felt it was his honor and a privilege to have served this elite agency on behalf of the American people. His final assignment, prior to his December 1989 retirement, was to serve as Resident Agent in Charge of the Raleigh office of the U.S. Secret Service. Prior to going into full retirement, Barry spent the next 10 years serving as Chief Investigator for the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Raleigh.
Barry is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Norma; son David Green and wife Jane of VA; daughter Lisa Lupinski and husband Steve of Raleigh; daughter Megan Granade and husband Benny of GA ; son Brian McWhirter and wife Lisa of FL ; son Kevin McWhirter and wife Allison of Charlotte. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. Roger Young and wife Dr. Kathy Schwarzenberger of TN and grandchildren Emma, Mollie, Andrew, Patrick, Taylor-Anne, Ryan, Jason and Matthew, nieces, Kristen and Kerrie and nephew Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road Raleigh, NC at 2 pm on Friday April 3, 2015. Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
