Barry Lloyd Gouge

Barry was born April 7, 1947 in West Grove, PA, to the late Margaret Taylor and Lloyd Gouge. He spent much of his childhood in California and Florida where he was an active athlete, playing football and running track in high school. He loved living on the lake, fishing, and had a lifelong passion of restoring cars.

Barry married Regina Gregory, his wife of over 50 years, in 1971. They made homes and lifelong friends together in Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, where they have lived for 30 years. He joyfully served in several capacities in his church, various non-profits, and at his daughter’s schools.

Professionally, he enjoyed a long career in retail, starting as a local store manager and working his way up to a long tenure as Vice President and General Merchandise Manager. Of all these things, closest to Barry’s heart was his family: his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law, and especially his three grandchildren. His favorite moments were spent reading to and wrestling with them, watching their sports and artistic endeavors, and enjoying big family meals together.

Barry is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Taylor Kirk, his father, Lloyd Gouge, and his half-sister, Nancy Gouge.

Barry is survived by his wife, Regina Gregory Gouge, of the home; daughter, Lisa Gouge Rohrer, and her husband, Dustin, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ila, Oakley and Beatrice Rohrer; sister, Donna Gregorits, and her husband, Eugene, of Harrisburg, PA; brother-in-law, Terry Gregory of Atlanta, GA; step-mother, Bertie Gouge, of Bluefield, WV; nieces and nephews, Kristian Hamilton, and her husband, Dave, Kelly Toney, and her husband, Brad, Matt Gregory, and his wife, Amy, Amy Ribic, and her husband, Chris, Chad Gregorits, and his wife, Christina; and several Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

A funeral service for Barry was held on Wednesday, August 31, in Providence Baptist Church. Officiating was Pastor David Horner. Burial followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.
