She was born on June 12, 1937, in Bladen County, NC, to Gladys and Edice Melvin. Barbara was a well-loved and respected woman in the community, known for her sense of humor and loyal friendship. She was known for her funny stories and hilarious sayings which she was eager to share with both strangers and friends alike.
Barbara dedicated approximately 28 years of her career to Human Resources at Westinghouse. Her role allowed her to have significant influence on the hiring process at the factory floor, leading to many close friendships and acquaintances. Barbara was also an big animal lover with her kitty cats at the top of the list.
Barbara is survived by her son, Michael Evans and her daughter-in - law Joanne Evans, her grandson, Justin Evans and grand daughter-in-law, Cat Evans, and her twin great-grandsons, Axel and Emil Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Edice Melvin, and her brother, Carlton Melvin Jr.
In memory of Barbara and lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Transitions Hospice, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Meals on Wheels.
As requested, there will not be a viewing or Memorial Service. There will be a graveside service in New Bern, NC at New Bern Memorial Cemetery, 1112 Chelsea Rd, New Bern, NC 28562 on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 1:00pm.
The family requests that those who knew and loved her remember the vibrant woman she was and how she touched each heart she encountered.
