Anne May Perry Capucille

Anne M. Capucille was born on the last cold day of the year 1919, Wednesday, December 31st. She lived a full and vibrant life up to her peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023. She was, as Anne would say, "almost 104".

Growing up just outside of Raleigh, in Falls of Neuse, Anne and her family experienced the comradery and community necessary to survive the Great Depression and the wonderment of seeing the first phone installed in town. After graduating High School she completed training as a hydraulic engineer and moved to Baltimore, Maryland to work for Martin Company, now known as Lockheed Martin. It was here where she would install the hydraulic system in the first B-26 bomber to enter WWII. Hearing about the attack on Pearl Harbor, she felt compelled to join and become one of the first women in the US Women's Auxiliary Army Corps and completed her basic training in 1942.

Anne fell in love with the late Henry Capucille, an officer, while serving in the military. After an honorable discharge by General Omar Bradley, the commanding officer of late Henry Capucille, they were able to marry. Through the military Anne, a military wife, and Henry were able to live a wonderful life traveling across the world while raising their four children Anita, Nick, Philip and Camellia.

Sadly Anita, Nick, and Camellia proceeded Anne in passing, but are all now together again with husband Henry.

Anne is survived by her son Philip and wife Simone, their daughters Sophia and her husband Jeff Lee with family, Vanessa and her husband Rick Macafee with family, Stephanie and her husband Shannon Poynor, and Nick’s widow Birgit Capucille with family.

What a spitfire she was. She would draw in the attention of an entire room. Anyone who knew her would be prepared for her humorous stories of the past and sometimes risqué toasts.

She was a devoted volunteer at the VA Dialysis Unit, a member of AMVETS, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary, and the first women to be inducted into The Forty and Eight.

A visitation for Anne will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Vision Church, 7633 Buffaloe Rd, Raleigh, NC 27616, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
