Andy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 4, 1950, to the late Lucille Casey Wilson and George Campbell Wilson. He grew up in Belmont, North Carolina and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from North Carolina State University in 1973. Andy retired after a long career with the North Carolina Division of Medial Assistance and in 2005 was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine in honor of his public service to North Carolina.
Andy was the most dedicated and supportive husband and father. He spent many years coaching his children’s sports teams and attending school events. Andy was most happy in his role as “Gramps” to his grandchildren, believing each one was the most perfect delight.
Andy enjoyed traveling his home state, especially a family week every summer in Emerald Isle and visiting the North Carolina mountains. In his younger days, he enjoyed running road races, participating annually in Raleigh’s Old Reliable Run, and spending Sunday afternoons playing volleyball with friends at Cameron Park. Andy was happiest when hosting friends at Val and his Five Points’ home, telling elaborate stories, and dancing in his kitchen. Andy was kind, joyful, and incredibly supportive to his friends and family. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
His memory will be carried on by his wife of 49 years, Valerie Forvendel Wilson; daughter Jenny Wilson Hanson (Jared); son Jason Henry Wilson (Emily); daughter Sarah Wilson Collins (Matthew); grandchildren Parker, Henry, and Emily Hanson; Reed and James Wilson; and Eller and Martha Collins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Janet Forvendel; his brother George Wilson (Nancy); brother-in-law David Forvendel (Shari); and his dog, Benji.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and George Wilson; and father-in-law, Henry Albert Forvendel.
