March 24, 1928 – November 6, 2024
It is with broken hearts and deepest love that we announce the passing of Loy Wong of West Roxbury, MA. With family by his side, Loy, age 96, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife King Fong Chow and 4 children: Linda and her husband Ken (CA), Shirley, Julie and her husband Michael (Westford), Jack and his wife Lisa (Southborough). He is remembered with respect and love by his six grandchildren: Cindy and husband Steve, Christine, Laura, Kevin, Brian and his wife Jessica, and Katherine.
Loy was born in Hoi Ping, Canton, China, son of Fook Jung Wong and Choi Ping Lam. Loy was an outgoing youth who enjoyed a variety of sports, particularly volleyball, basketball and the Martial Arts. He played in competitive volleyball and basketball tournaments, often winning local village and county championships. He was well known in his village for his performances in martial arts and dragon dance during Chinese festivals.
Loy’s life journey took him from China to Hong Kong, United Kingdom and eventually, to the U. S. in 1970. Like many of his Chinese village contemporaries at the time, he was in pursuit of a better life for himself and his family. He was a hardworking restaurant owner and waiter, often working long hours, six days a week for the American dream.
In retirement, Loy was an active member of the Boston Wong’s Family Association, often participating in a variety of association related charity projects, organizing student scholarship programs and Chinese social festive events. He created the martial arts and dragon dance-drum club at the Wong’s Family Association, a team that continues to perform during Chinese festivals to this day.
Loy loves to travel and enjoyed many vacations with his family in the U.S. and abroad. He also enjoys western cowboy movies, Chinese opera, sports cars, Mah Jong and cooking.
Loy lived a long and full life. He was a creative, humble, kind and thoughtful man. Our family will miss him dearly. His treasured memories will live on and he will forever in our hearts.
Relative and friends are respectfully invited to celebrate Loy’s life at a memorial service at Dewar Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy on November 15, 2024. Visiting hours are 09:00 am-12:00 pm, followed by a procession and interment at Forest Hills Cemetery
