George Sirkisoon unexpectedly passed away with grace and dignity on 4 May 2024 at 9:20pm, surrounded by the immeasurable love of his wife Marie and children Surren, Sheoranie, Fenella and Denise. He was a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, every relationship meant so much to him.
Born in Berbice, Guyana on 13 June 1939, the 6th child of 7, he had the faithful love of his parents Ramlochan and Bhagmat, siblings and best of friends Fred, Minnie, Arnold, Bryan, Mena and Leslie.
From early childhood, George was dedicated and focused on hard work and striving for a better life. He quickly earned a position as a law clerk for a prominent law firm in New Amsterdam, Guyana. There, he deepened his knowledge of law, economics and politics. This eventually gave him the foresight and foundation to plan his family’s immigration to the United States.
In 1962, George married the love of his life, Marie, also known as Esther; a relationship grounded in devotion to each other and their family. In 1969, George and Marie forged a migration path to a better life in New York City for their children, immediate and extended family. George and Marie’s move was an incredible sacrifice that paved the path to the US for all of his family and friends, allowing them to build a happy American life together. Throughout this endeavor, he held on to his heritage, remaining a compassionate Arya Samaj Hindu and avid fan of cricket, while at the same time being a patriotic American.
Sweet Georgie, Dad, Grandpa, Pop Pop, he had so many names, lives on in the loving memories of his wife Marie of 62 years, sons Surren, Robert, and Gregory, daughters Sheoranie, Fenella, Denise and Sandy, grandchildren Diane, Melissa, Veronica, Brandon, Jacob, Sean, Isabella, Sarah and Lily, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters by marriage, nieces and nephews that he treated as his own and the friends he welcomed into his life.
George laughed often, danced from the heart, won the respect and affection of all, appreciated beauty, poetry, spirituality and encouraged the best in others. He left the world infinitely better, knowing that many lives have breathed easier because he lived among us.
