Wayne first stepped onto the ice on January 8, 1942 in Emsdale, Ontario.
He honed his considerable natural skills under the guidance of his original coaches, parents Clarence & Peggy.
He played his junior career in Espanola, Ontario alongside his brothers Willis (1994) and Willard. There he met his lifelong line mate and love, Gloria, his wife of 59 years.
They settled in Belleville, Ontario where Wayne hung up his skates to coach and raise his home team, sons Gregg & Warren and daughter Kelly. And eventually developing a much beloved farm system of grandchildren: Matthew, Jack, William, Paisley, Regan & Ella.
After a brief comeback in Buffalo, NY, Wayne returned to the rink in the sunny south of Punta Gorda, Florida, where he rekindled his love of the game while playing on the BladeRunners for 20 years. He continued to shatter all records for goals, love, respect, fun and friendship until his passing on January 5, 2023. His countless friends, family and fans are all comforted knowing he is in the right place now, same as he always was on the ice. Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate if you wish to Canadian Tire Jumpstart https://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/ to help kids participate in the joy of sport, like Wayne always did, or to The Salvation Army, or charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kayspongerpg.com for the Paisley family.
