Shawnda Anne Aymett, age 55, of Pulaski, TN, died on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Fayetteville, TN, on August 8, 1969, and lived her life serving others with love and grace. Her light and her presence will be forever missed by her family, friends, and community.
Shawnda was born to the late James Lewis and Gwendolyn Maxine Warren, the fourth of five children, and grew up learning to use her strength and kindness as a gift to others. She graduated from Giles County High School in 1987 and pursued what would become a life-long career as a beautician. Over the years, she has beautified countless clients and worked alongside numerous coworkers, who she would no doubt consider to be some of her best friends. Until her death, she was the owner of A Head of Times in Pulaski. Her empathy and lack of judgement led a routine haircut to feel like a visit with a good friend or a great therapist.
Shawnda met the love of her life, Jay Aymett, in 1991. They spent several years dating and enjoying NASCAR races, riding around on country roads, listening to music, going to the beach, and spending time together with friends. Jay proved how smart he is by proposing to her on the beach in Panama City in 1995, and they were married at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski in 1996. They loved each other fiercely and went together like peanut butter and jelly for 28 years.
Jay and Shawnda had the first of their cherished and adored daughters, Natalie, in 2000, with Claire following in 2004. No mother has ever loved her daughters more nor been more proud than Shawnda was of Natalie and Claire. Shawnda loved her family and showed it in big and small ways every day. She enjoyed spending time with them and took great pleasure in watching them grow up to be beautiful young women. She happily welcomed Tyler, Natalie’s husband, as a son officially this past June. They all celebrated the wedding with two of her favorite pastimes - music and dancing. She enjoyed hanging out with her family by the pool, going to the beach, loved her bottle calves, cats, and good dogs, especially Ellie May. She loved cooking and eating delicious food and trying new things. Shawnda took care of people in need, cooked food for the sick, made friends of strangers and nurses and restaurant workers, and genuinely cared about everyone she met. Her contagious smile and laugh filled up rooms and lifted spirits. She was the buoy keeping many afloat in times of trouble, and always made room for more. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled and will be felt for years to come.
Shawnda is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Gwen Warren, her sister Rita Warren, and her brother Matt Warren. She is survived by her husband, Jay Aymett, her daughters Natalie (Tyler) Garrett and Claire Aymett, her father-in-law Allen Neal Aymett, her sister Michelle (Tony) Scott, her brother Mike Warren, nieces Jessica (Preston) Parsons, Alicia (Darin) Holt, and Emma Warren, nephews Billy (Jessica) Scott, Stephen (Angie) Scott, Cain James, Slade (Adie) Warren, Cody (Morgan) James, and Levi Warren, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Shawnda is also survived by The Shop Girls, countless friends and clients, and numerous members of our community.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Shawnda Aymett at First National Bank to start a foundation in her memory and to continue her spirit of giving selflessly. The details of which will be announced following their completion. In Shawnda’s memory and to celebrate her life, please consider performing random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty. The family wishes to thank everyone who has sent them love, food, and prayers.
Visitation with her family will be from 11am-2pm Saturday December 14, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski with a Celebration of Shawnda's life to follow at 2pm.
