It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Theresa (Tracy) Apodaca, who entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 7th, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Born in Sapello, New Mexico, Theresa was a beacon of light in our lives, leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Theresa graduated from Seton High School in 1968 and earned her degree from Southern Colorado State College in 1973. She dedicated her career to serving others as a devoted employee of the Pueblo County Department of Social Services and later at Colorado Blue Sky. Her compassion and dedication to helping those in need were evident in everything she did.
Theresa was married to her beloved husband, Max, for 51 wonderful years until his passing. Together, they cultivated a loving home filled with laughter and joy. She is survived by her son Brian (Keri) and daughter Michelle (Michael), who carry on her legacy of love. Theresa is survived by her three sisters, Wilma Marez (Rick), Dolores Aragon and Elizabeth Westmoreland (Julian), who, together, were known as "Matilda's Girls." The bond between the four sisters was undeniable—together, they shared a deep love, unwavering loyalty, and countless memories that will live on forever. As a proud and active grandmother named as Nani, she delighted in the lives of her grandchildren: Shelby, Cole, and Chase. Her warmth and nurturing spirit will forever be remembered by them, along with her godchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her brother-in-law Kenny Apodaca, cousins, extended family, and all who were fortunate to know her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Max, her parents Amande and Matilda Aragon, her brother Mark Anthony, her goddaughter Melissa Westmoreland, her in-laws Max and Vera Apodaca, her brother-in-law Ted Apodaca, and countless other family members who welcomed her into heaven with open arms.
Theresa and Max were avid travelers. She embraced the beauty of the world alongside her family and friends. Her love for reading enriched her life, and her generous spirit made her a wonderful Aunt and Nina. She had a unique ability to bring people together, creating lasting bonds and unforgettable memories.
In honoring Theresa's life, we invite all who knew and loved her to join us in celebrating her faith and legacy. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, December 18th, at 6 PM at the Chapel at Imperial Memorial. The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, December 19th, at 10 AM at the Shrine of St. Therese, followed by burial and a reception to share stories and memories of our beloved Theresa.
May her soul rest in peace, embraced by the love of God and reunited with her cherished family in heaven. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Children's Hospital Colorado in loving memory of Melissa Noel Westmoreland.
