Patricia A. Allsup (“Pat”), 89, passed away April 9, 2021 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was the widow of Richard “Dick” Allsup. They shared 44 beautiful years of marriage together. Preceded in death by parents, Chester and Catharine Whitmore and brothers Dick and Barrie Whitmore.
Pat was born in Kenton, Ohio, the only girl raised along with her three brothers. Pat “Patty” was quite the tomboy and developed her love of softball at an early age. She became the star catcher of the teams she played on. She played softball throughout her youth and into her early 20’s. If you’ve ever watched the movie, “A League of Her Own,” this was Pat! She had the chance to play semi-professional softball but chose to marry Dick instead. Her love for the game ever subsided, she coached summer teams later in life and also played on a few women’s summer softball teams. Pat was inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Association as well as the Pueblo Softball Hall of Fame – truly a league of her own!
She graduated from Centennial High School and Colorado State Teacher College (CSTC) / University of Northern Colorado. She and Dick were the first married couple to receive their Master’s Degrees while attending CSTC in Greeley, Colorado.
After college she was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army where she received her Physical Therapy certification. She later become a board member of the Selective Service and was involved in the American Red Cross Disaster Services.
She was a lifelong Educator, Mentor, Counselor and Administrator for School District 60 and Pueblo Community College.
She started her career as a teacher in District 60, advanced to career counselor and retired as Dean of Students.
After her short retirement, she was hired to develop the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at Pueblo Community College, for which she thought she would work only one year. However, this journey continued for over 25 years! She also was responsible for the initial development of the Physical Therapy Assistant Programs at Arapahoe Community College and Ft. Morgan Community College. She held multiple positions including Dean of Health Sciences and advisor in Student Services.
She retired at the age of 83 but she never truly stopped serving others. She loved working with students and valued education. She continued to encourage anyone and everyone to pursue their full potential.
Family was her top priority in her life. She enjoyed the Broncos, Rockies, fishing and shopping.
She will be remembered for her generosity, tenacity for life, resiliency and humor. She was often described as spunky and was sometimes even called “Spitty”.
A special thank you to her Primrose family, her Visiting Angels team, Parkview staff, Dr. Sipalay and Lulu, Dr. Travis Archuleta, and Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
