Marlene Ross

Born Mildred Marlene Sheffer in Newport, KY on Sept 23rd, 1932 to parent’s Bert and Dorothy Sheffer. Passed away Sept 1, 2021.

Marlene is survived by her husband and best friend LeOris. They both recently celebrated 70 years of a wonderful marriage.

Survived by her six sons, Timothy (Karen), Mark, Stephen, Robert (Nita), Philip and John (deceased.) She had 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Mary Jane Burton.

Marlene loved to paint, color by numbers, puzzles and many other arts and crafts. She loved cross stitch, sewing, making afghan’s and quilts for her entire family. She loved traveling and camping with her husband, her son John, a disabled US Navy Veteran, whom she cared for, for 20 years. Most of all she loved writing down her insights and thoughts gathered from reading scriptures, from her bible.

Marlene worked as a nurse at Parkview Hospital until 1981, when she began taking care of her disabled son John, and cared for him up until his death.

She was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene, where she taught bible classes for married couples. She participated in Sunday school, Girl Scout Brownie leader and a member of the choir for many years.

Marlene had an adventurous side to her. LeOris and Marlene rode the motorcycle all the way to Alaska and back. She trekked over Music Pass with her family and sister. She also climbed the Statue of Liberty with her son John. She and her husband visited all 50 states and Canada too.

She was a compassionate caring person who made great sacrifices for her family. She will always be remembered for family gatherings and how she made our times of celebrations so special. Oh and least we forget her classic after church pot roast dinners!!

She always reminded her family and friends what a blessed Christian life she had and so many cherished memories. When faced with trials and hardships she would always find strength in reading or quoiting scriptures from her bible that would bring peace in her heart and a smile of her face. Her dedication into the service of the Lord will bring her rewards in Heaven.
