Cherri was born August 22, 1939, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gayle Williams and parents Harold and Margaret Wesley. She is survived by her daughter Garilyn(Kevin) Warmack and her son Ralph Williams Jr.; grandchildren Jessica(Lance) Sedevie, Wesley Warmack(Missy Martin), and Erica(Cody) Scheid; great grandchildren Kaleb and Charlotte “Charlie”; her brother John(Sharon) Wesley; adopted sister-in-laws Sharon Ricker, Jeanette Walker, and Sue Elniff; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Cherri was born and raised in Great Bend, Kansas where she graduated from High School. She loved ice skating on the Cheyenne Bottoms in the winter and going to the drag races in the summer. She attended Ft. Hayes State and worked several jobs including a stint at the drug store and the bank in Great Bend. She was employed as a secretary at Mobil Oil Company when she met Gayle Williams. He had gone back to Great Bend to give his sister away in marriage. Cherri was the maid of Honor. They met in his sister’s kitchen but ended up dancing together at the wedding. Three months later, they tied the knot themselves. Upon their marriage, she moved to Pueblo, Colorado and they started a family together. They were soon a family of four with a poodle named Noel. Gayle and Cherri were married for a total of 56 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She always had a love for music and opera and encouraged her children in musical arts. She worked for the US Government Printing Office and ascended to the Receipts and Verification Supervisor before retiring and becoming a snowbird. She loved to travel, being in the warm weather places in the winter, playing cards, doing crafts and meeting new friends. For years she made flannel baby blankets and delivered them to the hospitals so that each baby would go home with a blanket that she covered in her daily prayers. In addition to her bible, she loved to read fiction and had two rolodex files full of cards listing the books by author so she wouldn’t check out the same book twice at the library. She could read a book in a day and some of her favorite authors were James Patterson, Linda Howard, Davis Bunn, David Baldacci and Francine Rivers. Her hands were always busy with knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch or quilting. As time went on, she relied on conversation with her brother John (Sharon) to lift each other’s spirits. She made sure that each one of her children and grandchildren had something that was specially stitched for them. She loved baseball, fast cars, and action movies. She looked forward every year to going back to the drag races with her son, Ralph. She was devoted to her family, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren speaking with each of them as often as possible even to call and sing songs such as “I love coffee” with Kaleb and Charlie. And, not to forget to mention her love for all her furry family members known as “Goldens” plus one English Cocker.
She was a true and faithful wife, mom, grandma, friend, listener, and a prayer warrior who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
