SCHWARTZ, THELMA (JACOBSON), 99, daughter of Israel and Rose (Rosenberg) Jacobson died on October 27, 2014 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late George Schwartz. Born in Providence, RI, she lived in New Bedford for 67 years before moving to Deerfield Beach, FL. She was a member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and its Sisterhood, a Board Member of National Council of Jewish Women, the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home and Hadassah. She loved playing golf and was the oldest member emeritus of Allendale Country Club. Mrs. Schwartz was a selfless person who was loved by all who knew her. Over the years, she undertook numerous volunteer projects. As an active member of many social activities she enjoyed Bridge and painting. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Holland and her husband Melvyn, Lois Horowitz and her husband Jay, all of Dartmouth and Rachel Schwartz of Farmington, CT; five grandchildren, Ilene Frankel and her husband Geoffrey, Andrew Holland and his wife Abigail, Marjorie Hoppe and her husband Stephen, Adam Fawer and his wife Meredith Davis, and Cheryl Herman and her husband Todd; and ten great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Dr. Charles Jacobson. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 11 AM at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 145 Brownell Avenue, New Bedford, MA with burial in Plainville Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at her late residence Wednesday 7-9 PM, Thursday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, Friday 2-4 PM.
