Ruth Ann (Dowling) Brady, 92, passed away peacefully having spent her final days surrounded by her loving family at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence on September 25th. Her husband of 56 years, George L. Brady Sr. passed away in 2010 and left a huge void in her life…no doubt they’ve reunited and are right back to discussing the pros and cons of being passionate fans of their respective baseball teams - Red Sox (George) vs Yankees (Ruth).
Ruth was born in Providence, daughter of the late Willis D. and Elizabeth (Barlow) Dowling. As a young adult Ruth worked as a telephone operator at New England Telephone and later as the switchboard supervisor for the former St. Joseph’s Hospital. While her children were growing up Ruth served on the Rosary and Altar Sodality as well as the PTA for St. Michael’s Parish in Providence. She and her husband were devout Catholics. For many years they traveled to various locations in Southern New England to attend the traditional Latin Mass.
Ruth is survived by her four children: Ann-Marie Peckham (Roy) of Sandwich MA, George L. Brady Jr. (Karen Venable) of Sagamore Beach MA, Margaret ‘Peggi’ Latorre (Peter) of Cranston RI, and Patricia Brady (John Mahoney) of Pawtucket RI. She was the proud Nana of six grandchildren – Ron, Joe, Peter, Jennifer, Jacki, and Dean. And she especially loved and endlessly bragged about her six great-grandchildren – Gia, Chloe, Valen, Alex, Ben, and Brady.
Ruth was the 10th of 11 children , she’s survived by her younger sister Barbara Molloy (Jim) as well as three sisters-in-law; Christine Brady Caswell, Dorothy Sanzi Dowling, and Claire McDermott Dowling. She was predeceased by five sisters - Elizabeth Pringle, Carolyn Alexander, Alberta Taylor, Sarah (Sally) Van Horn, Dorothy (Dottie) Corrigan and four brothers - Willis Dowling Jr, Alton Dowling, James Dowling, and Harry Dowling.
Ruth’s home for the past three years was the Little Sisters of the Poor’s Jeanne Jugan Residence in Pawtucket. Ruth’s family is ever grateful for her ability, despite progressive dementia, to live a joyful and blessed life as a member of the community in an incredibly caring environment. Also most recently assisted by the oversight of the Hope Health Hospice’s north team.
