Marie “Mary” (Meo) Izzo, 92, passed away August 24, 2014 in Golden Crest Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Anthony Izzo; daughter of the late Frank and Maria (Fasoli) Meo; granddaughter of the late John and Christina Fasoli, by whom she was raised. Mary was the loving mother of John Izzo and his wife Barbara and grandmother of Stephanie Izzo and Brian Hokeness; sister of the late Jennie DeAngelis; sister in law of the late John, Harry, Timmy and Albert Izzo, Gracie Sonner, Helen Sonner, Rose Duprei and Clara Rubino. She was the very special aunt of Gloria Morrone and her husband Raymond, Robert D’Orsi and his wife Olivia, Mary Anne Rubino and many other nieces and nephews. She also leaves several grand-nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Mary also had many cherished friends that she treasured like family.
Mary retired in 1999 from the Department of Unemployment for the State of Rhode Island after 20 years of service. She was a vibrant woman that enjoyed life and loved to have a good time. Throughout her life she was actively involved in St Ann Church and neighborhood functions, proudly serving as a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Rosary Altar Society, Fashion Show Committees and 4th Ward Democratic politics. Marie travelled to many countries worldwide, bringing home a bit of culture from each.

Visitation Thursday, 4-7 p.m. with a funeral on Friday at 8 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence. Graveside burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38150-1942.
