John Francis Conway was the youngest child of the late Michael and Winifred (Cafferkey) Conway. Born on February 11, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, John was enthusiastically received into a large and loving Irish Catholic family. John passed away at the age of 75 on September 23, 2024 with his beloved sister Maureen at his side.
To say that John was proud of his family is an understatement. He was the brother of Sr. Maureen Conway of North Providence, RI; Kathleen Howley of Connecticut; Michael Conway (Joanne) of New York; Bernadette (Aidan) of North Carolina; and the late Sr. Theresa Conway. John was the uncle of many nieces and nephews. John was beloved by all of his cousins and their families. John also found an honorary spot as a “brother” to a large and loving community of sisters in the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. He was so grateful for their loving attention in his final days.
John attended schools in Brooklyn, NY and he proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired after a long career with New York Life.
John had a deep and abiding faith that was the compass by which he directed his life. He was a living example of the values instilled in him by his parents and extended family. John was a wholesome and honest individual. He enjoyed simplicity and directness. He was kind and intelligent and had an understated and witty sense of humor. “John led his life with quiet dignity and resolve, always prompted by his faith” -Thomas Brennan
John’s family wishes to thank the many nurses, aides, and administrative staff from St. Antoines Residence for the care and keeping of our loved one. We thank the Beacon Hospice team for their support and care of John. We also want to offer our endless gratitude to the Sisters of The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary who have supported and uplifted John’s family.
John will be missed and he will live on in the memories of all who loved him.
