Helen Frances (McElroy) Cassin, of Johnston and a summer resident of Matunuck, died peacefully July 7, 2017 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Cassin. Born in Providence, Helen was the daughter of the late Terrence and Agnes (Slavin) McElroy. She was the loving mother of five daughters, Theresa Kelly and her husband Thomas, Kate Cassin, MD, Helen Egerton, Ellen Cassin, and Lori Cassin and one son, Thomas L. Cassin, Acting Assistant Chief of Providence Fire Department, and his wife Kelly. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Thomas Kelly, Jr. (PFD), Daniel Kelly, MD, William Pratt, Laura Allbee, Karleen Coyne, Erin Pratt, Thomas Cassin, Matthew Cassin, and four great grandchildren. Helen is survived by her brother, Fr. John J. McElroy, Pastor Emeritus of St. Joseph Church, Pawtucket. She was predeceased by her siblings Margaret, Anne, James, Virginia, Robert, and Thomas McElroy. Helen had been employed by the Providence Water Supply Board for many years before her retirement. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Tuesday, 4:00 - 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to South County Hospital Cancer Center 100 Kenyon Ave, Wakefield, RI 02879or Blessed Sacrament School 240 Regent Avenue, Providence, RI 02908.
