Dorothy E. (Ryden) McCormack, age 81, passed away August 16, 2022. Born in Wakefield, she was the older daughter of the late Carl and Doris (Johnson) Ryden. She was the loving mother of Richard L. McCormack, Merrick S. McCormack and his wife Dorian, Kelly A. McCormack, Raymundo T. McCormack (predeceased) and Kerri L. Esteban; beloved sister of Jenny Bryan; cherished grandmother of Timothy, Alexander, Liam, Margot, Kalvin, and Kale; and great-grandmother of Jenna.
Dorothy spent her early childhood in East Greenwich before moving to North Providence and later Providence. She had a special bond with her father, and she was proud of her Swedish heritage. As a teen, Dorothy was a Rainbow Girl and a Campfire Girl, and she performed in a school play. While raising her five children, Dorothy worked as a machine operator at Allied Fluorescent in Providence. Later she worked at Shaws Market until her retirement.
Dorothy loved Motown music, Disney movies, penguins and get-togethers with her friends and family. Notably creative, she made crafts and ornaments, and she loved to decorate her house for the holidays, especially Christmas. Dorothy captured her family history in scrapbooks, where she saved cards, letters, recipes, maps, art work, report cards, birth and death certificates and photographs. In the albums she created (one for each of her children), each item was carefully dated and often accompanied by handwritten notes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. from the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence followed by a service in the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
