Born in Providence she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Catherine (Marciano) Filardo. She was the sister of the late Joseph Filardo. She leaves behind her aunt Enrica Marciano and two nieces and her closest friend of forty years, Cindy Perrotti.
Barbara grew up in Providence and graduated from Saint Patrick’s High School and from Bryant Business School. Following graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Atlantic Coal for 15 years. She then went to work for the State of Rhode Island in the Traffic Judication Department for over 25 years. Following her retirement from the State, she went to work for the City of Providence as a crossing guard for 18 years patrolling her beat and socializing at the corner of Smith and Orms Street.
Always quick with a joke, Barbara loved going to play bingo, gambling on slots and going to the beach. She loved animals and rescued many cats and dogs over the years. Barbara had a way of putting smiles on people’s faces and she will be sadly missed.
Her visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16th from 9:30-10:30 in the PONTARELLI-MARINO HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, Providence. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory can be made to the ASPCA.
