Wilbur Orville Madsen, age 93, entered into eternity with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on November, 14, 2022 in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. He was deeply loved by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy Eloise Madsen (Iblings) on May 30, 2018.
He is survived by his five children, Sandy Folkerts (Aplington, Iowa), Rebecca Brookhart (Prince George, B.C.), David Madsen (Hinton, Alberta), Sharon Becker (Menomonie, Wisconsin) and John Madsen (Tumbler Ridge, B.C.), 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren as well as other extended family throughout Canada and the U.S. including his sister Lyla Peterson.
Wilbur was born to Edith Madsen on March 3, 1929 in Lincoln Township, Minnesota. Edith married Ole Nelson and they had three children, Lyla, Gladys and Ralph. After his mother died when he was 7 years old, he lived with various families. At the age of 14, two of his close friends, Gordon and Leonard asked their parents if Wilbur could come live with them. Andrew and Alida Olson took him in and the Olson siblings loved having a ‘bonus brother’. It was during that time living with the Olson’s that Wilbur experienced the love and acceptance of a Christian family and he accepted Christ as his Saviour. He dedicated his life to growing in the knowledge of God and serving God. After high school he went on to college and seminary and became ordained as a minister.
Wilbur spent the next 47 years as a pastor, ministering along with his wife, Dorothy, who he met at Bethel Seminary. They pastored churches in Naperville, Illinois; Ord, Nebraska; Brookings, South Dakota; and Montevideo, Minnesota. They then moved to Canada to serve in churches in Hinton, Alberta; Kenora, Ontario; Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. He retired from full-time ministry in 1997. In their retirement years, Wilbur and Dorothy ministered to international students and invested into the lives of their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and those around them.
His deepest desire and prayer was that his family and others experience the same love of Jesus Christ that he encountered as a teenager and sustained him throughout his life here on earth. Wilbur was a gentle and kind man, with a dry sense of humor and a twinkle in his eyes. He will be dearly missed.
