Gary was a student of the Bible which shaped every facet of his life. With his family, he found a place of worship and service in every community they lived.
Gary was employed by the Federal Department of Communications from 1968-1978; followed by 2 years in small business. He retired in 2007 from Telus Engineering after 27 years of service.
Gary loved people, everything was better when shared with family and friends, especially if it involved dessert and chocolate. He was a tease, enjoying jokes and pranks, all accompanied with hearty laughter. He played, watched and analyzed sports of all kinds. The annual fishing trip to Kitimat, camping with his friends all vying for the biggest catch, was a yearly highlight. Gary found great pleasure in waterskiing as well as towing others behind his boat. He was an avid photographer with a preference for shots of nature and travel. After retirement, he spent time at the lake, golfing, having coffee with his buddies and more sports.
Although he grieved his deteriorating strength and loss of independence, he did not complain.
Gary is survived by his wife Tess; daughters Gail (Steve) Derksen and Lisa (Craig) Reimer; grandchildren, Sydney (Jon) McLaren, Logan (Grace) Derksen, Quin and Connor Reimer and Rhys Derksen.
Gary was predeceased by parents Peter J and (Clara) Mable Peters; brother Stirling; granddaughter Erin Derksen.
