Merita DuBose Meyer, 64, passed away Monday, Feb. 3 at her home in Prattville, Ala. after a battle with cancer. Merita was born May 12, 1960 to Edith Crain Dubose and Quinton E DuBose in Crestview, Fla., and grew up on the farm of her grandmother Alma Lee Crain in Harold, Florida where she enjoyed
playing with her cousin Dewayne Summerlin, who she considered more like a brother. She enjoyed helping her Granny around the farm and accompanying her grandmother on her daily school bus route. She also enjoyed playing piano for Harold Baptist Church, where she and her family attended. Merita made lifelong friends with Traci Losee, now Traci Crisco, in fourth grade. Merita graduated in 1978 from Milton High School, where she participated in numerous groups including band, color guard and many others. She also taught piano lessons to individuals in the surrounding community and managed the local movie theater. After leaving high school, Merita earned two associate’s degrees in business from Pensacola Junior College, now Pensacola State College. With her degrees in hand, Merita became a loan closer for attorneys and title companies, which led to her meeting her husband Wesley Carl Meyer. They married April 14, 1990, and she enjoyed traveling to Europe with Wes on assignments from the US Air Force.
While stationed in New Jersey, Merita gave birth to her first daughter, Miranda Madison Meyer. The family then moved to Valdosta, Georgia before settling in Prattville, where she gave birth to two more daughters, Melena MacKenzi Meyer and Marceea Maysun Meyer. She counted her three daughters as her proudest achievement.
She became a retail merchandiser for Hallmark and a field representative and quality control officer at CLA. She was a committed AWANA leader for many years at Fountain City Baptist Church for 20 years.
In her off time, she became one of the premiere Pokemon GO players in Prattville, beloved b the wider local Pokemon GO community. She loved to go to the beach with her family and taking care of her beloved pets Gidget, Opal and Tsuki.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, cousin Sharon Summerlin and her dog, Gidget.
She is survived by her husband, three children, special friend Traci, and two dogs Tsuki and Opal.
The family thanks everyone who sent their support over the past year during Merita’s cancer battle, whether financially through the GoFundMe, or just through kind words or prayer.
A Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, February 13 at 11:00 AM at Eastside Baptist Church, 4884 Ward Basin Road, Milton, Florida 32583.
