Marcia B Plaster

Marcia Vann Bowers Plaster, 95, formerly of Autaugaville, Alabama passed away December 2, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen & Ruth Bowers, and her husband of 40 years, James J. Plaster, Sr. She is survived by her stepsons Jordan Plaster (Jenny) & Bob Plaster (Betty), three grandsons, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marcia was born August 12, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Autauga County High School. She was a 1952 graduate of Auburn University and a recipient of The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. She received a master’s degree in administration & supervision from Troy University.

Marcia began her career as an illustrator with the RCA Corporation in New Jersey. She returned home as an art teacher for 14 years in junior & senior high schools in Montgomery County. She twice served as President of Alabama Classroom Teachers and was elected AEA President in 1972. She went on to work as an Art Consultant for Autauga County schools. She spent the last five years of her career as Assistant Executive Director of the Governor’s Education Reform Commission under two state administrations.

Marcia was very active in her retirement spending time in many leadership positions in her community. She enjoyed playing in various bridge groups, traveling with her family, working on art projects and attending various sporting events.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church with a graveside service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the cemetery on the grounds of the church at 3514 Highway 14 West, Autaugaville, AL 36003.

The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers for the love and care they have given her for the past few years.
